Facebook Markup Language Support Ends Jan. 1

[![][1]][2][Facebook Markup Language][3] will move one step closer to the history books with the start of the new year.

The social network announced in a post on its [Developer Blog][4]:

FBML will no longer be supported as of Jan. 1, 2012. Aside from security- and privacy-related bugs, we will not fix any bugs related to FBML after Jan. 1, 2012. On June 1, 2012, FBML endpoints will be removed from platform.

And the following note appears at the top of the [Facebook Markup Language page][5]:

We are deprecating FBML. On Jan. 1, 2012: FBML will no longer be supported on platform. June 1, 2012: FBML apps will no longer work. All FBML endpoints are removed. If you are building a new application on Facebook.com, please implement your application using HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. You can use our [JavaScript SDK][6] and [Social Plugins][7] to embed many of the same social features available in FBML.

The move is hardly a surprise, as Facebook [announced in February][8] that it was phasing out FBML and focusing on iFrames as part of the launch of its then-new page design.

Pages running FBML have still been functional, but Facebook also removed the ability to create new FBML apps or to add static FBML apps to pages in March.
